The Millstream Singers men's choral group, of Findlay, Ohio, members of the Great Lakes Male Chorus Association, and the Findlay Arts Partnership, began holding its first rehearsals in a choir room at Findlay College, in 1980, with music borrowed from Bowling Green State University. The chorus has since acquired an extensive library of choral music and rehearses weekly at First Presbyterian Church, Findlay, Ohio on Monday evenings.
The Millstream Singers perform at various civic functions, local events, nursing homes, and are available upon request to serve Findlay/Hancock County and surrounding areas. We also travel to many Big Sings hosted in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana.
In 1998, by invitation, The Millstream Singers traveled to Disney World and performed in the 2nd annual “Men Of Song Show Case”, performing both individually, and en masse with five choruses from the U.S., one each from Finland and Sweden, and with the U. S. Army Chorus.
In 1993, the Millstream Singers participated in the Adjudication program at the American Male Chorus Association International Big Sing in Marquette, Michigan and received four superior ratings.
During the summer of 2000, as Ambassadors of Ohio for the National Festival of States, the Millstream Singers traveled to Washington, DC, performing at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the Jefferson Memorial, and The Fairfax, a retirement home for high-ranking military officers.
Our current Director, Mr. Norman Cassidy, formerly of Lordstown, OH, moved to Sycamore, OH in 1964, with his wife Juanita and their 3 children, teaching and conducting choral music for 33 years in the Tiffin and Mohawk school districts before retiring. Mr. Cassidy holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Youngstown State University, Youngstown, OH, and also directs the Chancel Choir of the Sycamore United Church of Christ. Mr. Cassidy has performed at Carnegie Hall, Pablo Casal’s Festival in Puerto Rico, The United Nations (New York City), and with the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus at Severance Hall, Cleveland, under the direction of Robert Shaw.
Our accompanist is Susan Kayser of Findlay. She and her husband Dan have lived in Findlay for the past twenty one years. They have two daughters and five grandchildren. Mrs. Kayser holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from Butler University in Indianapolis. She has taught public school and has taught privately for over 45 years. She is a professional accompanist and has served as church organist, choir director and handbell choir director. Prior to retiring, she worked within County Boards of DD for over twenty years.
